But before you panic and frantically call IT support: In most cases, you can solve the problem yourself &#8211; often in less than ten minutes.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">The good news: in 90% of cases, you can reset your password yourself in just a few minutes. We&#8217;ll show you how &#8211; depending on which system you use. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Quick check: Which account do you use?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">Before you begin the password recovery process, it is crucial to understand what type of account you are using. This one factor will determine whether you solve your problem in five minutes or an hour &#8211; or whether you need IT help at all. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Microsoft account<\/strong> (easier to solve)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li style=\"font-size:16px\">You log in with an e-mail address (e.g. name@outlook.com)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-size:16px\">Your PC synchronizes with other devices<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-size:16px\">You use OneDrive, Office 365 or the Microsoft Store<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">The Microsoft account is like a digital master key for all Microsoft services. Once you reset it, the new password will work everywhere &#8211; from your PC to Outlook to your Xbox. This used to be the standard, but today most users use Microsoft accounts. Das hat Vorteile beim Datenschutz, bedeutet aber auch, dass Sie auf verschiedene technische L\u00f6sungswege zur\u00fcckgreifen m\u00fcssen, je nachdem, wie Ihr System konfiguriert ist.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Methode A: Sicherheitsfragen (Windows 10 ab Version 1803 &amp; Windows 11)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>Voraussetzung:<\/strong> Sie haben bei der Einrichtung Sicherheitsfragen festgelegt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">Dies ist die einfachste Methode f\u00fcr lokale Konten \u2013 vorausgesetzt, Sie haben bei der Ersteinrichtung Ihres PCs Sicherheitsfragen konfiguriert. Microsoft hat diese Funktion mit dem Windows 10 April 2018 Update eingef\u00fchrt, um Nutzern lokaler Konten eine Self-Service-L\u00f6sung zu bieten. In diesem Fall m\u00fcssen Sie einen der alternativen Wege einschlagen, die wir Ihnen gleich zeigen werden. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Methode B: Administrator-Konto nutzen<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>Voraussetzung:<\/strong> Ein anderer Benutzer mit Administrator-Rechten ist auf dem PC vorhanden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">This method is particularly relevant in the corporate environment. Most company PCs have at least two accounts: Your personal user account for day-to-day work and an admin account that is only used for system updates and installations. Over the years, we&#8217;ve seen hundreds of cases of users desperately trying to log in when their password was actually correct. The Caps Lock key turns your &#8216;<strong><em>password2024!<\/em><\/strong>&#8216; into &#8216;<strong><em>pASSWORD2024!<\/em><\/strong>&#8216;. Windows makes a strict distinction between upper and lower case and you are locked out.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>Solution:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li style=\"font-size:16px\">Look at the small LED light on your keyboard<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-size:16px\">Deactivate Caps Lock<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-size:16px\">Enter password again<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>Tip:<\/strong> Click on the eye symbol in the password field to see what you have entered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" style=\"font-size:17px\">\u274c Error 2: Keyboard layout in English<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>Symptom:<\/strong> Special characters are entered incorrectly (e.g. Y becomes Z)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">The German and American keyboard layouts differ in some important respects. This is not normally noticeable &#8211; until you enter a password with special characters. Suddenly you no longer find the @ sign in its usual place, Y and Z are reversed.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Solution:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li style=\"font-size:16px\">At the bottom right of the screen: Check language setting<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-size:16px\">Should be <strong>DEU<\/strong> (German), not <strong>ENG<\/strong> (English)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-size:16px\">You can switch between layouts with Alt + Shift<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" style=\"font-size:17px\">\u274c Error 3: Numeric keypad does not work<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>Symptom:<\/strong> Numbers in the password are not recognized<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">Many people instinctively type passwords using the numeric keypad on the right-hand side of the keyboard. Faster, more efficient, more familiar. But when the Num Lock key is deactivated, the numeric keypad does not enter numbers, but controls the cursor. Your &#8216;2024&#8217; becomes nothing and you no longer understand the world.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>Solution:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li style=\"font-size:16px\">Activate <strong>Num Lock<\/strong> (LED control on keypad)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-size:16px\">Or: Enter numbers via the top row of numbers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" style=\"font-size:17px\">\u274c Error 4: Wrong account selected<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>Symptom:<\/strong> You have several user accounts on the PC<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">This error happens more often than you might think &#8211; especially on family PCs or company computers with multiple user accounts. You enter your password, it is rejected and you don&#8217;t understand why.
